In the past years I was very active via satellites.\u00a0 But after crushing of all High Earth Orbit (HEO) satellites (AO-13, AO-40) I practically stopped satellite operation and only periodically checking the satellites segment of bands, just to find new callsigns. And using very simple setup: FT-847 and dual-band vertical Diamond X-400 antenna.<br \/>\nPractically, all satellites has name OS\u0421AR\u00a0 with a serial number.\u00a0 <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><b>OSCAR<\/b>\u00a0means abbreviation from <b>O<\/b>rbiting\u00a0<b>S<\/b>atellite\u00a0<b>C<\/b>arrying\u00a0<b>A<\/b>mateur\u00a0<b>R<\/b>adio)\u00a0<\/span>such as AO-7, AO-10, AO-13, AO-27,\u00a0 AO-40, AO-51<em>&#8230;.<br \/>\n<\/em>The oldest, but still alive satellite, has name OSCAR-7 (AO-7). It has been launched on November 15, 1974, nearly 40 years ago. The largest, most modern and powerful\u00a0 satellite AO-40,\u00a0 after a catastrophic failure of the main battery, was died in January, 2004. Little bit more, than 4 years in the space&#8230;\u00a0 Very pity!<br \/>\nIt was a lot of experiments with antennas and equipment, when I worked via satellites. Especially, when AO-40 was operational. Many bands, new antennas, different modes (even RTTY!).\u00a0\u00a0 Lot of fun!!\u00a0 Below is my antennas setup for AO-40 (formed).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Satellite-setup-007_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-342 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Satellite-setup-007_1-111x150.jpg\" alt=\"Satellite setup 007_1\" width=\"111\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Satellite-setup-007_1-111x150.jpg 111w, https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Satellite-setup-007_1-223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Satellite-setup-007_1.jpg 613w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 111px) 100vw, 111px\" \/><\/a>From the left to the right:<br \/>\n-19 el yagi for 70 cm band with LNA,<br \/>\n&#8211; 35 el. yagi for 23 cm band;<br \/>\n&#8211; dual band vertical X-400 Diamond for 145\/435 bands;<br \/>\n&#8211; 21 turn helix with down converter (2401\/145 Mhz) for &#8220;S&#8221; band;<br \/>\n&#8211; 9 el. yagi for 145 Mhz.<\/p>\n<p>Later, I re<a href=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/dish1_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-344 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/dish1_small.jpg\" alt=\"dish1_small\" width=\"112\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a>placed the helix antenna to a 70 cm dish with a MKU 24TM OSCAR down converter (from DB6NT).\u00a0 The AO-40 have had a very powerful transmitters and sensitive receivers on all bands.<\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time I make an interesting experiment.\u00a0 I spent few hours to build a 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/21_helix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-346 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/21_helix-170x100.jpg\" alt=\"21_helix\" width=\"170\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/21_helix-170x100.jpg 170w, https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/21_helix-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/es1rf.interval.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/21_helix.jpg 764w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/><\/a>turns helix antenna, which was connected to a down converter (2401\/145 Mhz) from Parabolic AB, Sweden.\u00a0\u00a0 At the first evening new antenna was mounted inside the room<br \/>\nand I found AO-40 through the closed window. I was surprised\u00a0 to hear a main beacon\u00a0 with a 2 S-units over the noise level!<br \/>\nThen I found several stations from\u00a0Europe, VK6XH and UN7PV. And most of themes are not skilled HAMs.<br \/>\nBut, Bill McArthur, KC5ACR, Commander, Expedition 12 International Space Station, logged more than <strong>1750<\/strong> contacts and received honorary Worked All States, Worked All Continents and DX Century Club awards from the ARRL on 2 meters for NA1SS.<br \/>\n27-th of November, 2005 I did made very easy QSO with him too. And I was more surprised to get from PA0RKC (Cor) audio file.
