As usual, Quadrantids open the list of meteor showers of the year.
Quadrantids maximum is typically rather sharp, with ZHR varying in the range 60-200 hr-1. Its maximum in 2016 was expected to occur on January 4th, 08h UT, with ZHR = 120 hr-1.
Unfortunately, I had only few hours on January 4th to enjoy to work in this shower…
3rd of January I completed MS QSO on 432 Mhz with RW4HW (ODX 1634 km) and OZ5AGJ on 70 Mhz (ODX 916 km). Only 1 hour in the air…
Оn 4th of January I worked few hours more on 50, 70 and 144 MHz. Only one new grid square (LO63 – #900!) on 144 mhz, 2 initials on 6m, 4 initials on 4m and 5 initials on 2m bands.
An interesting experiment we made with Robert, 2E1IIP. We started QSO simultaneously on 6 and 4 m bands. JT6M on 6m and FSK441 on 4m. So, same stones, same pings with a slightly varying lengths and same info in every ping. I missed decoding of one ping on 4 m band, because it was too short. Completed in 8 minutes on 6m and in 11 minutes on 4 m.
